A Hero's Love Poem
I want to fight wars
for you
and you don't even
think about me.
I want to wage war
and cry 'battle'
and rage against
your enimies
for you.
And to you
I'm a vague
memory.
Not even a fond one.
Perhaps I am your enemy.
I'll fight myself
for you.
I'll take myself
to the battelfield
and cry nothing
but mercy
and beg for a white flag
from you.
I ask too much;
I'll build it from the grass
and go blind
until it's not white
or black
or green at all, for you.
I'll go blind
and surrender
and march home for you
On wide roads
I get lost in;
I'll stumble along
for you
To the sound of zero wives
welcoming me
into my hometown
